⚠️ Browser Test Limitations

This test runs right in the browser, with no software to install. This is convenient for a quick check, but has limitations:

  • No direct sensor access. The browser cannot show real CPU temperature, frequencies or voltage.
  • Relative results. Scores and execution time depend on the browser, OS and system load, and are not directly comparable to Cinebench or OCCT.
  • No accurate throttling detection. The browser cannot tell thermal throttling apart from OS scheduler delays.
  • Limited duration. Long stress tests (hours) may be interrupted or throttled by the browser.

How to test a CPU before buying

Overheating from dried thermal paste or a dust-clogged heatsink shows up as performance drops on longer profiles — the browser test will show this. Power-limit throttling is common in thin laptops and appears as a sharp drop in speed after the first 30–60 seconds of load. Mismatched specifications — for example, selling a Core i5 disguised as a Core i7 — are usually visible in Windows System Information by core and thread count, but the browser test scores will also hint at a discrepancy.

For full diagnostics, use specialised programs. Cinebench R23/2024 shows single- and multi-threaded performance. OCCT and Prime95 create maximum load to test stability. To monitor temperatures, frequencies, voltage and power draw, use HWiNFO64 or HWMonitor. Additionally verify that the model and advertised frequencies match what the system sees.
